Video comes to Myspace Mobile

The Mobile web has taken off and companies are looking at ways to capitalize on its instant access to users. Such is the same case for social networking. Social network giant Myspace has taken advantage of this by introducing streaming video to mobile. Of course, this feature is only available to certain phones. Some phones with this feature include the BlackBerry Bold, Palm Centro, Motorola Q9, LG Voyager, Nokia N95 and Samsung Instinct.
How does the new video feature work? Users can watch videos from their homepages as well as their friends’ pages. According to Reuters, “They also will be able to view professionally produced video from TMZ, the celebrity news and gossip website owned by Time Warner Inc; the National Hockey League; National Geographic magazine; satirical newspaper The Onion and others”. Because of this addition, Myspace might be able to solve the problem that many social networks face—monetization. This is possible through partnerships with the aforementioned companies. Additionally, Myspace plans to grow by creating further mobile applications in the future.
