User-generated Content Reaches New Heights

February 20, 2009 by admin · Filed Under Uncategorized

User-generated content is the fuel that continues to feed the fire that is web 2.0. This extends itself towards many avenues ranging from forums, wikis, blogs, social networks, podcasts and many more. How have users contributed to the evolution of the Internet, and how will it change the Internet in the future?

eMarketer’s recently published statistics on user-generated content shows that people are vastly engaged in providing content. Mashable states, “71 million people created content on social networks last year, while 21 million posted blogs, 15 million uploaded videos, and more than 11 million participated in virtual worlds. Overall, eMarketer arrives at the 82 million number – which counts everyone who generated content at least monthly – by accounting for the overlap within the respective categories measured”.

The amount of user-generated content projected for the next five years shows that this is not just a trend, but it is the way the Internet is headed. How are you contributing to user-generated content?

User generated content is so powerful because it drives the messages of a company or organization and web 2.0 in general. Companies are harnessing this power for their own advertisements. Companies like GeniusRocket and xLNTads are connecting companies and individuals in a relationship that benefits both. The possibilities with user generated content are endless.
