Users Embracing Website Redesigns

User feedback is one of the many advantages in social media. But what happens when users go against what the website designers have brought to them? This has been the ongoing debate for sites like Facebook, which has gone through many site redesigns in the last year. There have been several groups and movements against all of these changes. Users have protested the changes, wanting the “old Facebook” back. Nevertheless, according to different analyses, these changes seem to be bringing in more and more users.

TechCrunch observes that Facebook has been on a steady growth since the redesign. “After flat 0.3 growth in February, Facebook added nearly 4 million unique U.S. visitors in March (up 6.6 percent over February), and another 5 million in April (up 10.3 percent over March) to end at 67.5 million domestic uniques, according to comScore”. Another success in site redesign has been FriendFeed, which incorporated real-time updates to its homepage. FriendFeed saw a 28 percent rise in unique visitors in April.

While site redesigns may not go over well initially, it seems as though users embrace them in the end. New users also flock to the new site’s look.
