Facebook Embraces Different Web 2.0 Tools

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

The tools used in the world of web 2.0 vary from site to site. Facebook has prided itself in bringing people together through its social networking. However, compared to other social networking sites such as Myspace, Facebook was lacking in its blogging capabilities. Such is no longer the case, as Facebook implemented a new blogging application this week. Facebook is calling it a blogging network, which can bring together a community of writers. This is possible through the blog directory, which will organize bloggers through various demographics such as networks (school, city, etc.).

Facebook’s blogging network will incorporate another form of a widely used web 2.0 tool: RSS Feeds. Facebook is calling this feed the feed reader, which works based on the users’ blog networks. That is to say, once a user is part of at least five networks, the feed reader will automatically recommend similar networks to the user. As Facebook grows, it continues to take the initiative to incorporate multiple social media tools, ensuring their status as the biggest social network.

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Advertisers have taken notice of the ever-increasing popularity of blogs.  As a result, the search engine company specializing in blogs, Technorati, has launched Technorati Media. Technorati Media will create ad networks for blogs. Technorati prides itself in being a search engine that gathers and categorizes different blogs.

What will set Technorati apart, reports state, is that Technorati will cater to all blogs, not just those with high traffice. Nevertheless, Technorati Media already has a network of advertisers, which includes: Honda, T-Mobile, Sony,Visa, Universal Pictures and Best Buy (just to name a few).  As a search engine, Technorati is seen as competition to larger companies like Google and Yahoo! Its new addition, Technorati Media, may just give the company the edge it needs to make its presence known.
