Digg Announces New Advertising Platform
June 4, 2009 by Marcel Media · Filed Under Advertising, Social Media
Socialbookmarking giant, Digg, is making news once again. This time, however, the news is surrounding their decision to change the way in which companies can advertise on their sites. Users will be able to vote ads up or down—the new advertising model is called Digg Ads.
How will Digg Ads work? According to Digg’s blog, “Digg Ads will give you more control over which advertisements are displayed on Digg. The more an ad is Dugg, the less the advertiser will have to pay. Conversely the more an ad is buried, the more the advertiser is charged, pricing it out of the system”. The ads will show up right where top stories appear, and users can click them up or down. “It may link to stories, video trailers, independent product reviews – many of the same types of content you see on Digg every day. The goal here is to give advertisers a way to present content related to their brands and get immediate input on whether it’s relevant to the Digg audience, or not”. Although Digg Ads will not show up for a few months, it will be interesting to see which companies use the service.
