Facebook Changes Look and Feel

Facebook is changing its look and feel once again. Some say that this change in news feed, homepage, profile and fan pages is a response to the ongoing surge in popularity of microblogging phenomenon, Twitter.
The biggest changes coming from the redesign will be the merging of profile and fan page design. The pages will look more like the profiles, and the limit on the amount of fans a page can have will no longer exist. Additionally, Facebook will work to make friends’ and contacts’ updates instantaneous (in the same way in which Twitter now operates). Facebook’s newsfeed currently updates contacts’ activity on a delay of about ten minutes.
According to TechCrunch, the new homepage “will allow users to sort through and filter their feed more easily. Updates will be able to be filtered by groups, specific friends, family, or by applications. A new publishing box for sharing updates will incorporate the ability to add not just status notes, but also links, photos, and videos”. How will these changes affect Facebook and in turn, Twitter? Does Facebook have the power to stay relevant where Twitter is currently dominating?
