There has been many a buzz over Twitter in the last months, and one of the most talked about topic is that of search. Twitter’s real time search capabilities have been of intrigue to those within the SEO sphere. Will Twitter’s real time search capabilities pose a threat to search engine giant, Google? After all, more and more search results on Google are coming from Twitter. Nevertheless, there have been many rumors concerning a Twitter acquisition by Google. What could this acquisition mean for both parties?
Twitter owners would see some monetization come through in the acquisition. While social media outlets are increasingly popular, one roadblock it faces is its monetization. Furthermore, Twitter would benefit in Google’s larger capacity in its servers. Because Google can handle more, users would see less and less error messages on Twitter. Google would have more control in search, and no threat in a real time search competitor. As of now, Twitter has its own search engine. Would this go away if the acquisition does occur? Additionally, Google would have a more defined role in the social media sphere. If the acquisition does in fact occur, what changes can you foresee happening to Twitter? Who would benefit most from the acquisition?
