Recruitment 2.0 on the Rise
Gone are the days of potential employees going door-to-door and handing out their resumes. In the Web 2.0 world, recruitment is taking a turn into many branches. Resumes are sent by email, interviews are conducted over the phone and recruiters are taking a new approach to finding the right candidates for job placements—targeting social networks. Jobvite is an eRecruitment application that allows companies to send targeted job applications to potential employees via Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
How does Jobvite work? The Facebook and LinkedIn applications send a listing to its anyone who has installed the application (employees, customers, etc.). The application then recommends people in those users’ social networks that may fit the description of the job. If the user decides to apply, their information is sent to the company’s Jobvite campaign. The Twitter campaign lets companies advertise jobs through tweets or direct messages, while recommending users that might qualify for the position.
Can Recruitment 2.0 replace the face-to-face interview in a world that is turning more and more tech savvy? Not necessarily. Ben Swartz, President of Marcel Media states, “It cannot and will not ever replace face-to-face conversation…[i]t should and can only be used to cast the net wider to find more qualified individuals who have a better understanding of what you’re looking for and to get a better understanding of who they are.”
