Reddit Takes on Video
April 30, 2009 by admin · Filed Under Social Media
Reddit has launched Reddit.tv, a video site for popular clips on the main site. Reddit.tv operates on its own unified player. According to CNet news, “[i]t consists of a simple video player that streams in clips, along with a playlist that lets you jump around.” The majority of videos are coming from YouTube, and some from Vimeo. Users also have the option of sending the video they’re watching to others through a Twitter message (that links back to Reddit.tv).
Reddit.TV also links back to the discussion from Reddit.com, back to where the post originated as well as showing top-rated user comments. CNet states that, “[i]t’s a tad sparse considering the richness of a good Reddit comment thread (which can be several hundred comments long), but for casual users who don’t know much about Reddit, it’s a nice way to get them in the door. How will Reddit.tv change things for social bookmarking?
