Reddit Turns to Its Users for Spam Filtration
April 9, 2010 by Marcel Media · Filed Under Social Media
Social bookmarking site, Reddit announced that it would be calling upon its users to act as quality control for flagging spam submissions. This seems like a no-brainer as who knows a site better than its users? Not many.
After several attempts at combating spam, including the addition of moderators, Reddit has decided to call upon its everyday users for this task. ReadWriteWeb states, “Reddit users will have the ability to pitch in and say whether or not a specific submission is indeed spam or was inadvertantly flagged, much the way you can train your email program to detect spam”.

While this appears to be a good idea, one might ask who is moderating these new moderators? Users can mark relevant articles as spam if they don’t agree with the content. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
