February 3, 2009 by admin · Filed Under Social Media

A Facebook “sentiment engine” which could analyze aggregate user data has been continually discussed for some time now. Facebook and its advertisers could pull data that could show how many people are interested In a certain topic, or if users opt-in (based on privacy settings), what users are talking about. These speculations are further emphasized with added rumors of a new form of Facebook Engagement Ads that offer rapid polling to advertisers.

How would Facebook use this sentiment engine? According to Read Write Web, “Facebook [could] perform political polls and sell access to product feedback survey systems to advertisers… [p]olls could [also] be performed quickly, even as part of corporate crisis management processes”. The idea of instant feedback on the aforementioned ideas could be a catalyst to get the sentiment engine moving. Only time will tell what other innovative plans this could produce for Facebook and its advertisers.
