Social Media Networks Twitter and Digg Partner Up with Current TV

With one of the most vital elections about to take place, it is only fitting that it takes on different forms. This campaign season has shown many innovations and out-of-the-box ideas like text messaging information as well as politicians with Myspace pages and Twitter accounts.

Cable channel, Current TV, has partnered with Twitter in the past to broadcast live Twitters during debates. Current is stepping their game up by expanding their social media efforts for election night. According to reports on Current broadcasting Diggs and Twitters,  Current “has partnered with both Twitter and social news site Digg for the evening of November 4, during which it will feature a ‘multimedia dashboard’ with live messages from Twitter, headlines from Digg, and video from both Current and ‘video status update’ start-up 12seconds.tv.

Regardless of the results of the election, social media has played an imminent part in informing voters of the candidates’ positions, as well as allowing voters to give feedback to those candidates. Using social media for campaigning and informing is also beneficial, as it reaches a younger demographic—the demographic with the least voter turnout. Social media will hopefully bring the importance of voting to a forefront.
