YouTube’s need to turn profit on its high traffic site is appearing more evident as it has introduced advertising. Now, YouTube is planning to add another layer that will help build more revenue. Although YouTube uses ads now are used primarily within videos, other lesser known and available ads, which appear on user channels, are only available to a select few. This is about to change as YouTube announced it would be giving more users the opportunity to begin placing ads on their channels.
Who exactly will be able to get ads on their channels? In order to maximize the effectiveness of YouTube’s efforts, they have decided to make ads available to videos which gain the most popularity. Adage writes, “YouTube is offering the option to just about anyone who uploads a video that meets certain YouTube standards and becomes popular. When an uploaded video’s popularity starts to accelerate, YouTube will send the user an e-mail and add an ‘Enable Revenue Sharing’ button, which will allow the owner to permit YouTube to sell the video’s ad space to advertisers”. YouTube is hoping to simultaneously grow revenue as well as its group of partners. Nevertheless, there’s still the question about how responsive users will be to channels with ads.
